It is with great sadness that we report the passing of one of Norton’s most popular stars, Carlton “King” Coleman. His name is synonymous with class action dance floor traction-- (Do The) Mashed Potatoes. The Boo Boo Song, Alley Rat, Dressed In Plaid, Down In The Basement, Bulldog, Show Me What You Got, Loo-key Doo-key, to name but a few-- all humongous, inflammatory buttshakers that redefine the dance disc jockey lexicon and realign us regular people's reason for living. King Coleman's wild story and incredible sounds are collected on IT'S DANCE TIME! which was released in time for King's appearance at the Norton Soul Spectacular in 2003, an event that happily coincided with Billy's 50th birthday-- instant party! King delivered the goods in spades to an awestruck crowd of bone-fide Alley Rats who were clearly losing it to see and hear the legend belting out his signature stompers. The Spectacular soundtrack, GET IN THE GROOVE includes King on The Boo Boo Song (with the audience chanting along in unison), and belting it out on the Shake A Tailfeather finale with the also-late Nathaniel Mayer and Rudy Ray Moore, plus Andre Williams, Bettye Lavette, the Mighty Hannibal, Barrence Whitfield, the Great Gaylord, and Lonnie Youngblood.
